Founded in 1921 by the Lutheran Church-Canada Missosuri Synod, Concordia began as a preparatory school for young men interested in church ministry careers. Over the past eight decades, Concordia has developed into a co-educational, degree-granting institution known as Concordia University College of Alberta and an academic high school known as Concordia High School.
In 2000, Concordia High School (CHS) and Concordia University College of Alberta (CUCA) separated to become two separate institutions, though CHS was located on the same campus as the University. The 2001-02 school year marked a new milestone as CHS began to operate under its own Board of Governors.
On August 30, 2011, Concordia High School opened the doors to its new campus and is now located in southwest Edmonton. CHS prides itself on being a university prep school, and the new campus features larger dormitories, expanded classroom space and enhanced educational opportunities.
