- Designed to help students plan for their futures and prepare them for independent living with a focus on communication, well-being, relationships, sex education, career planning, and independent living skills. *Must be completed by date of graduation.

- ELA 10-1 is an introductory course in the interpretation of literature and basic essay writing skills, with a greater focus on personal creation and response to texts.

- ELA 10-2 is an introductory course in the interpretation of literature and basic essay writing skills, with a greater emphasis on personal response to contexts.

- Math 10C (Combined) joins the former 10-1 and 10-2 courses. Math 10C reviews number systems, polynomials, coordinate geometry, and introduces rational expressions, functions, radicals & exponents and trigonometry.

- P.E. 10 encourages students to develop lifelong fitness activities. Emphasis is placed on team sports.

- Religion 10 explores the relevance of religion in the contemporary world, using the Bible as a source for answering the basic questions of life.

- Science 10 is an introductory general science course focusing on the role of energy and its transformations in driving systems and sustaining life. Equal emphasis is placed on biology, chemistry, and physics.

- Service Learning requires that each students completes twenty-five hours of documented service learning activities in the community, church or school by end of the school year. * Each student is eligible to earn 1 credit over their 3 years of Service Learning by registering in CMH2030 – “Community Volunteerism”.

Social Studies 10-1 |

- Social Studies 10-1 covers the development of Canada’s sovereignty, national security, and role in the world. Major emphasis is placed on Canadian citizenship and the structure of government.

Social Studies 10-2 |

- Similar to Social Studies 10-1, but Social Studies 10-2 shifts its focus to explore the effects of globalization on lands, cultures, human rights and quality of life. Students explore the relationships among globalization, citizenship and identity.

- Art 10 teaches students to combine description, expression and cognition in the drawing process and extends their knowledge of and familiarity with the elements and principles of design.

Career Technology Modules |

- Students may have the opportunity to earn one or more credits in a variety of CTS modules that relate to the school’s academic & co-curricular program. These modules may focus on developing technology-related skills, support learning in other subject areas, and/or prepare students for the workplace.

- Choral Music 10 Students build upon the basic skills taught in Choral Music 9, and are introduced to basic composition skills.

- Digital Photography introduces a series of lessons and activities using digital cameras and computer software programs. This class covers features of a digital camera, the digital darkroom, printing and creating, subjects and styles and macro/micro shots.

- Drama 10 builds upon concepts learned in Drama 9, building students’ confidence with their own voice and movement. Students are also introduced to aspects of technical theatre and design.

English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) |

E.S.L. assists students in improving basic English language skills, focusing on reading, writing and verbal communication. Through systematic instruction, students gain a stronger fluency of the English language.

- French 10-3Y is an introductory French course for students with minimal or no background in French.

Information Processing 10 |

- Information Processing 10 is a continuation to computer applications, particularly word processing, databases and spreadsheets, presentation software and web page design. Students will explore applications in a level appropriate to their background.

Off-Campus Education and Registered Apprenticeship Program (R.A.P.) |

- Students who hold part time jobs outside of school may be eligible for additional credits through the Work Experience or R.A.P. Contact the Principal for details.

- The R.A.P. gives students on-site training by a skilled tradesperson with classroom learning. Students get practical, hands-on training, and get a start on their apprenticeship for potential careers in the trades.

- Spanish 10 is essentially a continuation of Spanish 9, reinforcing the material to a better understanding of basic skills necessary for Spanish fluency.

- Students can acquire knowledge in areas of fitness and nutrition, injury management, management for sports teams and other topics.

Work Experience Program |

- The Work Experience Program provides students an opportunity to acquire credits for part-time/full-time jobs. Students explore careers and reflect upon specific knowledge, skills and attitudes gained in the workplace.
