These are the courses available to Grade 12 students at Concordia High School.
Program Courses

- Biology 30 includes molecular, classical and population genetics and also looks at the human nervous, endocrine and reproductive systems. Students also reflect upon the relationship between science and maintaining a sustainable environment.

- Designed to help students plan for their futures and prepare them for independent living with a focus on communication, well-being, relationships, sex education, career planning, and independent living skills. *Must be completed by date of graduation.

- Chemistry 30 introduces students to energy changes, electrochemistry, and acid and base theories. Students also learn about the chemical principles behind natural events.

- ELA 30-1 continues to develop students’ skills in the six strands of language through the study of various literary genres, with a heavy emphasis on critical thinking, as well as oral and written interpretation and analysis of literature.

- While similar to ELA 30-1, ELA 30-2 places a greater emphasis on personal response to context, and critical/analytical responses to non-literary texts.

- Math 30-1 includes discussion of exponents and transformations, conics, logarithms, polynomials, quadratic and trigonometric functions as well as applications with sequences, permutations, and statistics. Math 30-1 is also a co-requisite for Math 31.

- Math 31 is an introductory study of Calculus.

- P.E. 30 introduces students to individual activities such as golf, rock climbing, scuba, bowling and racquet sports. (Offered in alternating years.)

- Physics 30 is an advanced level course that covers impulse and momentum, forces and fields, electromagnetic radiation and atomic physics, examining matter and energy, and their interactions.

- Religion 30 explores the universality of religious experience. Students study various beliefs of five great world religions, which should deepen their own belief as well as develop empathy for the beliefs of others. The five religions include Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam.

- Science 30 builds upon the topics learned in Science 20, and examines the relationship among science, technology, and society.

- Service Learning requires that each students completes twenty-five hours of documented service learning activities in the community, church or school by end of the school year. * Each student is eligible to earn 1 credit over their 3 years of Service Learning by registering in CMH2030 – “Community Volunteerism”.

- Social Studies 30-1 is a study of the contemporary world based on two themes: political and economic systems; and global interaction: conflict and cooperation (WWI to present).

- Similar to Social Studies 30-1, Social Studies 30-2 examines the origins, values and components of competing ideologies to better understand various political and economic systems.

- Art 30 challenges students to use personal experiences as a source for image making, develop and solve design problems, refine drawing skills and study selected artists and periods.

Career Technology Modules |

- Students may have the opportunity to earn one or more credits in a variety of CTS modules that relate to the school’s academic & co-curricular program. These modules may focus on developing technology-related skills, support learning in other subject areas, and/or prepare students for the workplace.

- Choral Music 30 is an advanced course, with a focus upon applying previous knowledge, especially improving upon theoretical and practical skills.

- Digital Photography introduces a series of lessons and activities using digital cameras and computer software programs. This class covers features of a digital camera, the digital darkroom, printing and creating, subjects and styles and macro/micro shots.

- Drama 30 furthers students’ experiences with performance, production, theatre studies, and acting associated with major productions. Students are also introduced to basic concepts of directing.

English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) |

- E.S.L. assists students in improving basic English language skills, focusing on reading, writing and verbal communication. Through systematic instruction, students gain a stronger fluency of the English language.

- French 30-3Y further develops students’ French fluency in writing, reading and conversational skills.

- In Information Processing 30, students work independently in modules appropriate to their experience level.

Off-Campus Education and Registered Apprenticeship Program (R.A.P.) |

- Students who hold part time jobs outside of school may be eligible for additional credits through the Work Experience or R.A.P. Contact the Principal for details.

- The R.A.P. gives students on-site training by a skilled tradesperson with classroom learning. Students get practical, hands-on training, and get a start on their apprenticeship for potential careers in the trades.

- Spanish 30 is an advanced reading, composition and conversational course. Students will continue to develop their confidence and fluency in Spanish.

- Students can acquire knowledge in areas of fitness and nutrition, injury management, management for sports teams and other topics.

- The Work Experience Program provides students an opportunity to acquire credits for part-time/full-time jobs. Students explore careers and reflect upon specific knowledge, skills and attitudes gained in the workplace.
