Parents are considered an integral part of the Concordia community. Parental involvement has been shown to help support student learning, add a sense of security, and support the transition to increased independence and freedom.
At CHS, we encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s schooling and educational development. Although busy work schedules and life demands can make it difficult to participate in your child’s education, CHS has easy ways for all parents to get involved:
Attend school events. Make it a priority to attend school events when schedules permit. While this can be difficult for parents whose children live on campus, we encourage parents to choose the school events that best fit into their schedules like annual school plays or sports tournaments.
Volunteer. Talk to teachers to find out what opportunities are available. You can assist in small ways, such as help make phone calls, photocopy items for an upcoming event, or use any special skills or talents to help a class or school event.
Join the parent council or a school committee. Be upfront and realistic about your time and availability. Any degree of parent involvement will make a difference.
Take an interest in your child’s studies. Read the same book or material your son or daughter has to read for a class. This gives you a great opportunity to see what your child is learning and have discussions to mark their understanding and progress.
