Faith Focused Learning.
Concordia's mission statement places the Christian faith as the main focus of all its activities. This faith is lived out in the daily interactions between staff and students and is also formally incorporated into the programs of the school.
Routines to support the spiritual development of students are built into the curriculum. Each morning, the day begins with a devotion and prayer through the PA system, and students attend the chapel twice a week. Every student is also required to take a religion course each year.
Students often look to teachers for ways to behave. Concordia provides a faith-driven community of caring teachers and staff who model the teachings of the Gospel and lead by example. From hallway conversations to the classroom, teachers at Concordia work to model behaviours and attitudes they believe in and that are consistent with the Christian faith.
A teaching philosophy framed around core Christian values – such as love, acceptance and forgiveness – helps students develop a solid moral grounding. Respect, responsibility and integrity are also key values that teachers work to impress on students through teachings and interactions. Students are shown respect as individuals and are encouraged to use their knowledge and skills for the benefit of others in the community.
Concordia’s Service Learning program, mission trips and other outreach efforts further contribute to spiritual growth and learning by giving students opportunities to join theory with experience and thought with action.
